Native Dual-Monitor Wallpaper Support in Windows XP
Finally discovered a way to accomplish this without the need for third party software:
- Go to Display Properties (right click on desktop > Properties).
- Set the background to None and choose a dark solid color background.
- In the Desktop tab click Customize Desktop.
- Click the Web tab.
- Click New then specify which image you'd like to use.
The image needs to be the same size as the full resolution of your combined displays, i.e. 2560x1024. - Click OK [desktop items].
- Click OK [display properties].
- Drag the image on your desktop so that it fills both screens.
- Go back to Display Properties > Customize Desktop > Web tab.
- Check 'Lock desktop items'.
- Click OK [desktop items].
- IMPORTANT: Click the X button. DO NOT CLICK OK OR APPLY.
Occasionally after a reboot I'll have to redo these steps because Active Desktop breaks, but if you don't reboot very often it's not an issue.
Recommendation: Google Image Search (with quotes) "2560x1024" or your dual-monitor resolution to find wallpapers or check out socwall.com.
